Devota fulfills her promise and donates an embroidered dress for the Virgin of the Valley

A dream of faith materialized in embroidery

Yaneth Elarba, a devotee from Maturín, has seen a long-held dream come true: to donate the dress that the image of the Virgin of the Valley will wear during her traditional Bajada, celebrated on September 1. Her story, marked by perseverance and deep faith, transcends the material to become a public testimony of gratitude and Marian devotion.

The promise that gave rise to the work

The origin of this gesture dates back to a time of family distress, when Yaneth's son faced a serious illness that required a kidney transplant. In the midst of this ordeal, the devout woman made a promise to the Virgin of the Valley, patron saint of eastern Venezuela. Her son's subsequent successful recovery was interpreted by the family as a miraculous intercession, prompting Yaneth's desire to express her gratitude in a special way.

A process of waiting and dedication

"I always wanted to be able to dress the Virgin, but it was difficult because the church and the priests coordinate it, and there are many people waiting their turn," Yaneth said of the process, which involves a waiting list managed by church authorities. Last year, she finally received the authorized pattern to proceed with the dressmaking, a moment she experienced as a confirmation: "I felt that the Virgin gave me the opportunity to tell me: your son is cured, he is healed, you can make the dress."

Craftsmanship and detail in the service of devotion

The dress was commissioned to renowned dressmaker Nidal Noauihed, who transformed the fabric into a work of sacred art. "It has no shape, it is all embroidered, stone by stone, painted and worked with great care," Yaneth described, highlighting the meticulousness and countless hours of work invested. Each stitch and each embellishment was applied with the intention of reflecting the quality and love that, according to her faith, the Mother of God deserves.

Significance in the Bajada celebration

The piece, which will be admired by thousands of faithful during the procession, is part of the centuries-old tradition of the Bajada de la Virgen del Valle. This act of dressing the image with garments donated by devotees is a deeply rooted practice that symbolizes the affection, requests, and gratitude of the community. For Yaneth, her donation represents the culmination of a cycle of faith, pain, hope, and healing, offering tangible testimony that her prayers were heard.
