El Calero Concludes Its Patron Saint Festivities with Solemn Mass and Procession of Our Lady of Fátima

Liturgical Closing of the Festivities

The community of the El Calero neighborhood in Telde concluded its patron saint festivities this Monday with a religious event of special significance. The celebration consisted of a solemn mass followed by a procession featuring the images of Our Lady of Fátima and Saint Stephen. The event marked the end of an extensive festive program that took place over fifteen days.

Episcopal Presidency and Citizen Participation

The Eucharist was presided over by the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, Cristóbal Déniz, who led the ceremony from the altar. The Rondalla Beñesmen provided the musical backdrop during the religious service. Among those attending the mass were the mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, and the deputy mayor, Sergio Ramos, highlighting the connection between the municipal institution and the community’s religious celebration.

Procession as an Expression of Community Faith

Following the Eucharistic celebration, the procession through the neighborhood streets began. The image of Our Lady of Fátima, a Marian devotion of great significance commemorating the apparitions in Portugal in 1917, was carried by the faithful. The procession was accompanied musically by the Telde Municipal Music Band, joining a large group of parishioners who wished to accompany the sacred images in this public act of faith.

Review of Two Weeks of Celebrations

With this liturgical event, El Calero brought to a close a festive cycle that began on May 3rd with the proclamation by Manuel Betancor. The comprehensive program combined religious, recreational, and cultural elements, including concerts by groups such as Los Lola, The Miracle, Los Salvantapallas, Aseres, and Armonía Show. Additionally, family activities and an offering pilgrimage were held, reflecting the diverse and participatory nature of festivities that are a highlight in the local calendar.
