The renowned Italian actress and showgirl Valeria Marini has embarked on a journey of faith to Medjugorje, the Marian sanctuary in Bosnia-Herzegovina, hoping for a miracle to restore her relationship with her mother, Gianna Orrù. In an image released from the site, Marini appears in front of the statue of the Virgin accompanied by a brief but significant phrase: «La fede è luce, è vita» (Faith is light, is life).
A painful rift
According to the Italian weekly Oggi, mother and daughter have not spoken for two years due to financial disagreements. Despite Valeria’s repeated attempts to reach out — including public apologies on television — reconciliation has not come. «Only a miracle can save the bond between my mother and me,» the visibly emotional artist told the media outlet directed by Andrea Biavardi.
A pilgrimage with a cause
During her three-day stay in Bosnia, Marini visited the Church of St. James, the main temple of the sanctuary, several times. She was accompanied at all times by journalist and writer Paolo Brosio, who acted as the trip’s organizer. The pilgrimage was not only spiritual but also charitable: funds were raised for the construction of a new hospital in the area. The actress trusts that prayer and the intercession of the Virgin can open a door to family healing.
The case of Valeria Marini reminds us that, even amidst fame and success, family wounds can be deep. Her public testimony of faith and humility invites reflection on the value of forgiveness and hope for reconciliation.
