Two testimonies of healing on different continents
In early 2026, devotion to Saint Charbel Makhlouf was renewed with the official report of two healings considered miraculous, one in the United States and the other in Lebanon. Both cases, documented in January of that year, involve women who experienced a complete recovery inexplicable to medical science after entrusting themselves to the Maronite hermit saint. These events add to the more than 30,000 miracles reported through his intercession, consolidating his figure as a bridge of faith and hope for believers of diverse cultures and religions.
The healing of Georgianne Walker in Indiana
Lawyer Georgianne Walker, from South Bend, Indiana, faced a serious complication after abdominal surgery in December 2024. A persistent infection kept her surgical wound open, inflamed, and bleeding for ten months, without responding to antibiotic treatments. In the absence of improvement, her surgeon scheduled a second operation for September 2025. However, a visit from a friend, George Issa—who had previously experienced a healing through the intercession of Saint Charbel—changed the course of events. Issa brought her a bottle of oil blessed with the saint's relics. Walker reported that after praying and applying the oil to the wound, it healed completely, avoiding the scheduled surgery. The healing was officially recorded on January 17, 2026.
The case of Racha Charbel in Lebanon
Meanwhile, in southern Lebanon, Racha Charbel (born in 1987) was diagnosed in October 2025 with a meningioma, a 2.3 cm tumor on her spine. According to her neurosurgeon, Dr. Christian Atiya, the tumor did not respond to medication and surgical removal was the only option. A follow-up MRI was scheduled for January 7, 2026. The night before, Racha entrusted herself to Saint Charbel, touching an image of the saint hanging above her bed and asking for his intercession. The next day, the medical examination revealed that the tumor had completely disappeared, with no possible scientific explanation. The woman officially recorded the event on January 17 at the Monastery of Saint Maron in Annaya, the saint's resting place.
A devotion that transcends borders
Saint Charbel, a Maronite priest and hermit monk who died in 1898, was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1977. His reputation as an intercessor attracts not only Catholics, but also Muslims and Druze, especially in the Middle East. In December 2025, Pope Leo XIV visited his tomb during a trip to Lebanon, describing his intercession as "a river of mercy." The practice of using oil blessed with his relics, maintained by the monks of Annaya, and the monthly pilgrimage on the 22nd—in memory of the miracle granted to Nouhad El Chami—are testimonies to a living and cross-cultural devotion that continues to bear fruit in the 21st century.
