Major Relic of Saint Carlo Acutis to Visit Bathurst Diocese in 2026

The Diocese of Bathurst in Australia will receive an exceptional opportunity: the major relic of Saint Carlo Acutis will travel through the diocese from August 27 to 31, 2026, as part of a national pilgrimage across Australia. This will be the 25th country to host the relic, which will visit the towns of Dubbo, Bathurst, and Oberon during its stay in the diocese.

The pilgrimage will also include a second relic of the saint and the exhibition of Eucharistic Miracles that he himself created. Saint Carlo Acutis, canonized in October 2025, has become a beloved saint, especially among young people. He was an ordinary teenager, with a love for computers and technology, who placed Jesus and the Eucharist at the center of his life. Before dying of leukemia in 2006 at age 15, he used his skills to catalog Eucharistic miracles from around the world.

The major relic contains part of Carlo’s pericardium, the membrane surrounding his heart, and a relic of his hair will also be displayed. During the five days, there will be opportunities to participate in Masses, Eucharistic adoration, prayer, veneration of the relics, and the exhibition of Eucharistic Miracles, as well as dedicated spaces for students from Catholic schools. Carlo described the Eucharist as his «highway to heaven.»

Context and Relevance

The visit offers the diocese an opportunity not only to learn about one of the Church’s most recent saints but also to follow his example in encountering Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and responding to the call to holiness in everyday life. Everyone is invited to participate in this significant moment of pilgrimage and prayer.

The program includes activities in Dubbo, Bathurst, and Oberon. In Dubbo, on August 27, at St Brigid’s Church, there will be the exhibition of Eucharistic Miracles, presentations on Saint Carlo, veneration of the relics, Eucharistic adoration, confessions, and Mass. On August 28, also in Dubbo, activities will continue with Mass at St Laurence’s Church. In Bathurst, on August 28, the Cathedral of St Michael and St John will host a youth Mass and welcome the major relic. On August 29 and 30, the cathedral and parish center will offer the exhibition, Masses, holy hour, and a young adults’ gathering called ARISE, with Father Karl Sinclair, parish priest of Coonabarabran. On August 31, the cathedral will house the relics and exhibition, with visits from Catholic schools. In Oberon, on August 29, St Ignatius Church will receive the procession of the relics, Mass, prayer, veneration, blessings, and holy hour.

The relics of Saint Carlo will be present at all Masses in the cathedral parish during the visit. Outside of Masses, they will be available for veneration in the parish center during exhibition hours. The pilgrimage seeks to inspire the faithful to deepen their Eucharistic devotion, following the saint’s example.
