The Vatican approves miracle for the beatification of Argentine businessman Enrique Shaw

A path to sainthood backed by a miracle

The Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints has confirmed the approval of a miracle attributed to the intercession of Enrique Ernesto Shaw, paving the way for his upcoming beatification. This decisive step in the Argentine businessman's canonization process was authorized by the Pope after a rigorous medical and theological evaluation process that lasted for years.

The event considered inexplicable by science

The recognized miracle corresponds to the complete healing, without significant neurological sequelae, of a six-year-old boy who in 2015 suffered serious injuries to the back of his neck after being kicked by a horse. Investigations concluded that his recovery had no scientific explanation, thus fulfilling one of the fundamental requirements for advancing the beatification process. This case was presented as proof of the intercession of the Servant of God.

A life between business and faith

Enrique Shaw was born in Paris on February 26, 1921, into a wealthy family, but his biography is marked by a profound sense of austerity and service. Educated at La Salle College and the Navy Officers' School, where he was the youngest officer in the Navy, he later developed a distinguished career in the business world. As general manager of Cristalerías Rigolleau, he promoted a humanistic and Christian vision of the company, promoting labor rights and ethical management.

Social commitment and institutional legacy

His faith translated into tangible social commitment. Shaw was the founder of the Christian Association of Business Leaders (ACDE), actively participated in the creation of the Catholic University of Argentina, and collaborated in numerous solidarity initiatives during the postwar period. Married to Cecilia Bunge and father of nine children, he died at the age of 41 in 1962, after an illness. His cause for canonization was formally initiated in 2001 in the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires.

The support of Pope Francis

The Pontiff has repeatedly expressed his admiration for Shaw, whom he has cited as a model of consistency between faith and professional life. "He was rich, but he was a saint," said the Pope, emphasizing that the businessman managed his assets with social responsibility, avoiding paternalism and promoting the integral growth of his employees and collaborators. With the approval of this miracle, the Catholic Church is preparing to proclaim blessed a layman who lived his vocation in the heart of the economic world.
