A centuries-old tradition that renews faith
On September 14, the municipality of Bacares, in the Almanzora region of Almería, experienced one of its most fervent religious moments with the annual procession of Santo Cristo del Bosque. The image, considered the protector of the town, left its sanctuary at 5:30 p.m. and made its way to the chapel located in El Bosque, where, according to tradition, it appeared to the inhabitants of the area.
A journey full of symbolism and devotion
Carried on the shoulders of the custodian brothers and decorated with red roses, the processional Christ advanced flanked by the flag-bearing group and members of the Brotherhood, which this year commemorates its half-century of existence. The square in Bacares was packed with faithful who received the image with tears and cheers, demonstrating the deep emotional and spiritual connection they have with their patron saint.
Favorable weather conditions and large turnout
Unlike other years, when the threat of rain often unsettles the devotees, the day was marked by high temperatures and clear skies. Thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the province of Almería and even from outside the province accompanied the procession. Many fulfilled promises made by walking barefoot, a tangible sign of gratitude for the protection attributed to the Holy Christ throughout the year.
The musical accompaniment and the significance of the event
The Anacrusa de Bacares Music Band, with more than sixty members, performed the processional marches. Several musicians showed visible emotion as the image passed by, reflecting the collective admiration. This procession is the only annual occasion on which the image is taken out onto the streets, establishing itself as an essential milestone in the religious and community life of the municipality, combining devotion, tradition, and local identity.
