Report of an unusual phenomenon
At the home of the Melchor Mondragón family in Morelia, Michoacán, a phenomenon was reported that has captured the attention of the community: an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, venerated in the home, began to shed what has been described as tears of blood. Miguel Mondragón's daughter was the first to notify her father of the event, who, after observing the image, decided to inform the priest of his parish so that he could verify the facts and begin a process of verification.
Official position of the Church
The Archdiocese of Morelia, in a statement, emphasized the need to act with restraint and prudence in the face of what it describes as an "alleged miracle." The institution noted the importance of "avoiding gratuitous disqualifications or statements without the necessary foundation," announcing that it is already investigating all the details of the case in order to issue an official position at the appropriate time. "The Archdiocese of Morelia is taking the necessary steps to investigate the situation in a thorough and exhaustive manner, and therefore it is too early to issue a definitive statement on the matter," the statement said.
Pastoral intervention and community reaction
Father David Arias confirmed that a parish priest went to the home at the request of the family, whose sole purpose was to provide spiritual care. "This in no way confirms anything in this regard," Arias clarified, indicating that the priest asked to treat the matter with discretion and invited the family to take advantage of the moment to strengthen their personal conversion and family prayer. Meanwhile, hundreds of neighbors and devotees have flocked to the site to venerate the image, pray, light candles, and bring floral offerings, interpreting the phenomenon in the context of the violence affecting the region and the country.
Canonical verification process
The ecclesiastical hierarchy will be responsible for setting up a specialized team to carry out a detailed study of the case, following the protocols established by the Church for this type of event. The Archdiocese has committed to releasing any relevant reports or conclusions once the investigative process is complete. This cautious procedure reflects the Church's usual practice in the face of alleged supernatural phenomena, prioritizing discernment and scientific-theological study before making any statements.
