Cinematic reconstruction of a Marian event
On Monday, December 8, TV Globo will present the film 'Fátima: A História de Um Milagre' (2020) on Tela Quente. The screening is scheduled for 10:25 p.m., after the soap opera 'Três Graças'. The production is a religious drama that reconstructs one of the most significant Marian events for the Catholic faith in the 20th century.
The visions that shook Portugal
The film tells the true story of three shepherd children from Fátima, Portugal: Lúcia de Jesus (played by Stephanie Gil) and her cousins Francisco (Jorge Lamelas) and Jacinta Marto (Alejandra Howard). Between May and October 1917, in the midst of World War I, they reported six apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Their revelations, initially met with skepticism and opposition by civil and ecclesiastical authorities, attracted thousands of pilgrims to the site, culminating in the so-called "Miracle of the Sun," witnessed by a crowd on October 13 of that year.
Recognition and spiritual legacy
After investigation, the apparitions were later validated by the Catholic Church, which declared the visions "worthy of faith." The city of Fatima became one of the world's leading Marian shrines. In 2017, during the centenary of the apparitions, Pope Francis canonized the siblings Francisco and Jacinta Marto, who died young during the Spanish flu pandemic. Lucia, who became a Carmelite nun, lived until 2005 and was responsible for transcribing the so-called "Secrets of Fatima."
International production with a Brazilian touch
Directed by Italian Marco Pontecorvo, the film is a co-production between the United States and Portugal. The international cast includes renowned Brazilian actress Sônia Braga, who plays Sister Lucia in her adult years. The soundtrack includes the original song "Gratia Plena," composed by Paolo Buonvino and performed by renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli, adding an artistic and emotional dimension to the historical narrative.
