Jujuy celebrates the Lord and the Virgin of the Miracle at the San Francisco Basilica

Devotion to the Lord and the Virgin of the Miracle, one of the most important religious manifestations in northern Argentina, also has its place in Jujuy. At the San Francisco Basilica in San Salvador de Jujuy, the “Solemn Cult to the Lord and the Virgin of the Miracle – Path of Encounter and Hope” is taking place, parallel to the central activities in the province of Salta.

Novena and masses at the San Francisco Basilica

The novena began on September 6 and will run until September 14, with prayers at 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., and the celebration of holy mass at 8:00 p.m. These gatherings bring together hundreds of faithful each day who come to pay homage and renew their faith in the historic Jujuy basilica.

Central celebration on September 15

On Monday, September 15, the central day of the celebrations, masses will be held at 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., while at 6:30 p.m. the Solemn Procession will take place through the surrounding streets, a moment of great spiritual significance for the community. Friar Dante Ríos, from the San Francisco Basilica, explained: “We will gather in the atrium at 6 p.m. We will make a tour through the capital’s center, along Lavalle, Alvear, Sarmiento, Belgrano streets and then return here.” He confirmed that afterwards they will perform “the pact of fidelity and the singing of the hymn. From there we re-enter the temple for the Holy Mass at 8 p.m.”

Missions and attention to the faithful

In addition, Friar Dante Ríos noted that “on these days from Monday to Friday we will be doing missionary work in the atrium from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.” “It is for people who want to come and pray for a while, who want to know the confession times, the mass times. We are here to bless people, to listen. Some want to tell their problems, their difficulties, and it is the right time to meet with the community,” he added.

Pilgrimage to Salta

At the same time, numerous groups of pilgrims from Jujuy have begun their walk to the city of Salta in recent days to participate in the traditional central procession in honor of the Lord and the Virgin of the Miracle. Every year, thousands of devotees set out from different towns and cities of the province, covering long distances with flags, images and songs that reflect the deep faith that characterizes this festivity. Different stretches of National Route 9 and National Route 34 show groups of faithful walking along the shoulder, driven by faith and devotion towards the province of Salta.
