An unusual event during perpetual adoration
On January 6, coinciding with the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, an extraordinary event was recorded in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel of the Parish of María Pentecostés, located in Maracaibo, Zulia state. According to the account gathered by lawyer Pablo Vivas, parishioner and adorer Elva Molina witnessed and photographically documented what is described as an unusual manifestation before the Blessed Sacrament.
The account of the event
According to the testimony, Mrs. Molina was in her usual prayer before the tabernacle when a couple, one of whom suffered from a serious illness, came to the place to pray. After the sick person fainted, requiring medical attention and transport, Elva Molina decided to capture an image of the monstrance. Upon reviewing the photograph, she observed with astonishment what appears to be a Eucharistic form floating horizontally in front of the ciborium. The witness described a reaction of prostration, amazement, and praise, considering herself unworthy of such a manifestation.
Interpretation and religious context
Within the framework of Catholic doctrine, the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist is a central dogma. Events of this nature, historically called «Eucharistic miracles,» are occasionally reported in different parts of the world and undergo rigorous ecclesiastical discernment. Lawyer Vivas, commenting on the event, emphasized that this type of testimony serves as reminders of the belief in the constant divine presence in the Sacrament of the Altar. For her part, the protagonist interpreted the experience as a sign of encouragement and divine love directed at the Venezuelan people in the nation’s current context.
Discernment process
The Catholic Church approaches any report of supernatural phenomena with prudence and seriousness. An alleged Eucharistic miracle requires a canonical investigation that may involve theologians, scientists, and episcopal authority, in order to rule out natural causes or human explanations, and determine whether the event has an authentically supernatural character. To date, there is no knowledge of an official statement from the Diocese of Maracaibo regarding this specific case.
