An Event in the Context of Eucharistic Reparation
On Saturday, August 10, 2024, as part of a prostrate rosary offered for the intentions of Colombia and Venezuela, an event described by participants as extraordinary took place at the San Joaquín parish, located in the Las Ferias neighborhood of Bogotá. The event, organized by the Cenacle Mary Mother of Perpetual Love under the direction of Father Juvel Zuluaga Agustino, an Augustinian Recollect religious, is held monthly with the charism of reparation to Jesus through prayer.
The Development of Events According to Testimonies
According to accounts shared by the community, when Father Zuluaga entered in procession with the Blessed Sacrament to expose it on the altar, both he and several attendees perceived that the consecrated host, contained within the monstrance, exhibited a pulsating movement. In response, the priest held the monstrance before the congregation, estimated at over 300 people, as prayers began. The founder of the cenacle, María Carolina López, led the prayers with a faltering voice, according to testimonies, in the face of a phenomenon that reportedly lasted approximately twenty minutes.
Continuation of the Liturgical Act and Second Manifestation
After that first episode, the Blessed Sacrament was placed on the altar, and the recitation of the prostrate rosary proceeded, where the faithful prostrated themselves face to the ground, offering each mystery for the intentions of the two nations. Upon concluding the prayer, when the priest was about to reserve the Eucharist, witnesses claimed that the host began to pulsate strongly again for another fifteen minutes. Following an inspiration attributed to the founder, the priest walked through the venue with the monstrance before reserving the Sacrament and celebrating Holy Mass, concluding the event around two in the afternoon.
Reactions and Theological Significance Attributed
Father Juvel Zuluaga, in statements collected by the parish, expressed that attendees received this event as a sign of God’s love and companionship for Colombia, Venezuela, and the entire world. He emphasized the intention that this experience lead the faithful to value more the gift of the Eucharist and reaffirm their faith. The phenomenon, quickly disseminated on social media, generated numerous expressions of emotion and gratitude among the faithful, who interpret it as a manifestation of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
