Scientists Confirm Eucharistic Miracle Linked to the Devotion of Saint Carlo Acutis

An extraordinary event after the young saint’s death

The Catholic Church is preparing to celebrate the feast of Saint Carlo Acutis for the first time on October 12, 2025, following his canonization by Pope Francis on September 7 of the same year. Acutis, who died at age 15 in 2006 from leukemia, is known worldwide for his computer programming skills and his website dedicated to documenting Eucharistic miracles. Precisely to this devotion is associated an extraordinary event that occurred in Mexico days after his death.

The phenomenon of Tixtla

On October 21, 2006, in Tixtla, Guerrero, during the distribution of communion, a religious sister observed with astonishment that a consecrated host began to exude a reddish substance. Father Mark Goring of Saint Mary parish in Ottawa, Canada, has recently explained this case documented in the book «Eucharistic Miracles of the World.» Many faithful link this event to Saint Carlo Acutis due to his deep Eucharistic devotion and the temporal proximity to his passing.

Rigorous scientific investigation

The then bishop of the Diocese of Chilpancingo-Chilapa, Alejo Zavala Castro, requested a scientific investigation led by Dr. Ricardo Castañón Gómez. The results, published by the forensic team, are conclusive: the analyzed substance corresponds to human blood with hemoglobin and DNA. Two independent studies conducted by forensic experts using different methodologies concluded that the blood originated from inside the host, ruling out the hypothesis of external manipulation.

Findings that defy natural explanations

Microscopic analysis revealed that the blood belongs to type AB, coinciding with that found in the Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano and the Shroud of Turin. Even more surprising was the discovery of human heart muscle tissue. The scientists emphasized that «no study exists that can keep heart tissue alive in this situation,» noting that normally this tissue dies within 48 hours, while in this case it remained for three months before obtaining the results, a fact described as «truly inexplicable to science.»

The researchers also documented that while the upper layers of blood showed coagulation from October 2006, the inner layers revealed in February 2010 the presence of fresh blood. The official statement from the scientific team concludes categorically: «The event has no natural explanation.» This Eucharistic miracle strengthens faith in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and is spiritually linked to the life of Saint Carlo Acutis, whose love for this central mystery of the Catholic faith marked his brief but intense existence.
