Testimonies During a Eucharistic Celebration
According to multiple testimonies from participants of a healing mass celebrated on Friday at San Jerónimo Parish in Coronda, an image of the Virgin Mary in her devotion of Our Lady of Sorrows is said to have manifested tears. The events occurred at the end of the monthly Eucharistic celebration, when a girl, a member of a family music ministry, noticed liquid flowing from the eyes of the religious statue. Several parishioners present claimed to have witnessed the phenomenon, describing that the tears continued to flow visibly as they approached the image.
Community Response and Spontaneous Mobilization
The account spread quickly, generating a spontaneous mobilization of the local Catholic community. Throughout Saturday, numerous faithful gathered at the church, a historic building inaugurated in 1837, to pray and observe the image. At 6 p.m., a collective recitation of the Holy Rosary was called in front of Our Lady of Sorrows, located at the front of the church. Many of those present interpreted the event as a spiritual sign, although no official statement has yet been issued by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe or the local parish authorities.
Historical Context of Devotional Images
The image involved, along with a Crucified Christ, constitutes one of the main focuses of devotion within the parish. According to the historical research of Professor Alcira Marioni Berra, collected in her book «El Templo San Jerónimo,» both statues date from the 19th century and are close to life-size. Our Lady of Sorrows was made in 1867 and the Christ in 1879, carved from hard wood. Despite the stylistic changes of the time, these works are framed within the tradition of Spanish realism, maintaining deep artistic and devotional value for the community.
